Zee Cine Awards: Nominations Revealed

Gone are the days of just 5 nominations. This year the Zee Cine Awards judging panel have decided to nominate not 6 but 7 leading ladies in the Best Actress category. Read my comments below.

Best Actor Male
Ajay Devgn - Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai
Akshay Kumar - Tees Maar Khan
Hrithik Roshan - Guzaarish
Ranbir Kapoor - Raajneeti
Salman Khan - Dabangg
Shah Rukh Khan - My Name Is Khan

This category is as expected. Shah Rukh had to be in there. Salman obviously, for the biggest hit of his career. Ajay whose had a great year at the box office. The magnificent performance by Hrithik in Kites was overlooked but he's in there for Guzaarish and may win. Ranbir also thrown in for good measure. Akshay deserves it for having a great year.

Best Actor Female
Aishwarya Rai - Guzaarish
Anushka Sharma - Band Baaja Baaraat
Deepika Padukone - Break Ke Baad
Kajol - My Name Is Khan
Kareena Kapoor - Golmaal 3
Vidya Balan - Ishqiya
Katrina Kaif - Raajneeti

Right, where to start? Let me begin by complaining. One big name is missing from the list. Miss Piggy Chops herself Priyanka Chopra! Her performance in Anjaana Anjaani as Kiara was tremendous and some critics even hailed it as her best, but she's not nominated here? Outrageous! The one on the list that I don't think should be there is Deepika. She's a good actress but her performance as Aaliyah in Break Ke Baad was not nomination worthy. The clear frontrunners here are Kajol and Aishwarya. Katrina was impressive and Vidya was great. Kareena, the current Queen of Bollywood doesn't have a great chance with a comedy unfortunately. I am not surprised that Kajol's We Are Family performance was not taken into consideration, even though it was the best performance of the year; sadly because it flopped.

Best Film of the Year
Dabangg
Golmaal 3
My Name Is Khan
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai
Peepli [Live]
Raajneeti

Best Director
Abhinav Kashyap - Dabangg
Karan Johar - My Name Is Khan
Milan Luthria - Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai
Prakash Jha - Raajneeti
Sajid Khan - Housefull
Sanjay Leela Bhansali - Guzaarish

Karan Johar? Seriously?! Okay, we all love him on Koffee With Karan, but as a film director I think he's lost the plot since K3G! Sanjay Bhansali should win this. Although my personal choice would be Siddharth Anand for Anjaana Anjaani or Maneesha Sharma for Band Baaja Baaraat.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Song of the Year
'Bin Tere' - I Hate Luv Storys
'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji' - Ishqiya
'Munni Badnaam Hui' - Dabangg
'Pee Loon' - Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai
'Sajdaa' - My Name Is Khan
'Sheila Ki Jawani' - Tees Maar Khan

A pretty decent list here. But the one omission I'm miffed about is "Tujhe Bhula Diya" from Anjaana Anjaani.

  4. No good singers here. Maybe if Alka Yagnik sang one of the songs it would be good.
