4 Heroines In 1 Film - HouseFull indeed!

Zarine Khan, Asin, Shazahn Padamsee, Crew Member, Jacqueline Fernandez
Remember back in the 90s when 2 actresses on the same set would not even speak to each other let alone pose for a photograph. Two decades down the line - have things finally turned around? I just came across this photograph taken from the sets of the upcoming 'Housefull' sequel. The camera-phone pic features 4 Bollywood Divas all smiling and cosying up with each other - which is a new trend it seems. Well I must add that they are all fairly newbies and it would be a bigger news story had it been Kareena, Priyanka, Deepika, Katrina, but it's a start.

Shazahn and Asin
The starring divas are Asin, Zarine Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Shazahn Padamsee. Asin who made her debut with Aamir Khan in 2008 with 'Ghajini' has made a decent splash in the B-town waters, whilst the others have not made a significant impact yet. Jacqueline <'Aladin'> and Shazahn debuted in 2009 in unsuccessful films whilst Zarine, who debuted with Salman in 'Veer' <2010> is still trying to distant herself from the "Katrina Kaif's chubby cousin' image.

Jacqueline and Shazahn
The cast and crew have been shooting in London and Peterborough for the last few months with a further schedule lined up for October. The film will be released 2 years after the first, on June 1st, 2012.

Movie Review: Ready

I wasn't even planning on watching this movie for a few reasons. The biggest reason is the director: Anees Bazmee. After I wasted my money watching his disaster 'No Problem' last year, which is easily one of the worst movies I have seen in the last 15 years. I also skipped the universally panned 'Thank You' earlier this year.

Asin and Salman in another nonsense scene

The second reason is Salman Khan. When will he learn how to act instead of posing in front of the camera? In all of his latest movies it seems like I am watching an episode of 'The Salman Khan Show'. He will rip his shirt off. He will dance in foreign locations with girls who look like his grand-daughters (Asin, Zarine Khan). And he will fumble his way through horrible dialogues in the same monotone stance he seems to be so comfortable with.

I used to love him in the early days. His debut in 1989's 'Maine Pyar Kiya' right up to 1999's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'. After that he really lost his magic. I suppose the break-up really affected him.

Nevertheless I was willing to give the movie a chance. But how is it possible when the star doesn't know what the act in acting means and the mastermind doesn't know what the direct in director means.

The only saving grace, bar a couple of cheap jokes was of course the UBD Asin. She came back after a flop (again with Salman, 'London Dreams' in 2009), despite making a huge debut with 'Ghajini' the previous year.

Asin played her comic role very well and looked stunning, but she became one of the extras in the second half taking a back seat while 'Sallu-bhai' as he is lovingly known continues to run the show.

The flaws of the film lie in the screenplay and story - both of which are wafer thin and confusing to say the least. Next there are far too many characters, none of which are well defined. The 'humour' was almost non-existant: cut to the house maid speaking in broken English for a few 'laughs': terrible.

I thought there sorts of crap movies were left in the mid-90s, but no. Throw in a few guest appearances (Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Kangana Ranaut, Zarine Khan), some hot songs, some foreign locales and some cheap jokes, backed with a ton of promotion and bang you have a hit on your hands.

Finally, please someone show Zarine Khan to the nearest gym. She looked awful. No style, no grace, no adah. Uff!

UBD's Bollywood-Bytes 17-May-2011

Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri Dixit
Hot off the press: apparently Mads has signed up to star opposite Sanjay Dutt in the remake of 'Satte Pe Satta'. The role was first offered to Aishwarya Rai, and then fell into Vidya Balan's lap but they were unable to commit. And now a source has claimed that Madhuri will sign the movie this month, and shooting is set to commence by July. The role was portrayed in the original film by Hema Malini.

Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra
The bollywood queen of technology, Piggy Chops has recently crossed 2 million likes on Facebook. And also, being the most followed B'town celeb on Twitter, she just crossed the 1 million mark. Her nearest competitors are Preity Zinta, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta. Miss Chops is currently shooting back-to-back for Barfee and Agneepath.

Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif
With the promo for her first flick of the year 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' underway, and the final schedule of 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' wrapped, Katrina now confirmed she is doing 2 further films with YRF productions. The first titled 'Ek Tha Tiger' is with Salman Khan, whilst the other as yet untitled film will see her star for the first time with Shah Rukh Khan.

Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone
Deepi has wished Sonam Kapoor "good luck" for her Cannes appearance. The 2 divas started their careers together on the same Friday in 2007 and have since been seen as fierce competitors. However their appearance together on Koffee With Karan last year where they held hands and shared a great rapport put rumours of a rift to rest.

Asin
Asin
The 25-year old diva has been very selective in signing projects in B-town since her 2008 debut in Ghajini. Her follow-up to that smash hit was the disappointing flop 'London Dreams' [2009]. She is back again early next month, once again with Salman Khan in 'Ready'. She recently said "My priority is not visibility". Well let's hope she doesn't become invisible.

Zarinne Khan
Zarinne Khan
The 22-year old UBD who made her debut last year with 'Veer' will next be seen in a cameo appearance, once again with Salman Khan in 'Ready' next month. She is currently shooting 'Housefull 2' along with Asin and Jacqueline Fernandez. Let's hope she can make her mark.

UBD's Bollywood-Bytes 03-Feb-2011

Deepika Padukone
In November last year Deepika stated she would love to work with Hrithik Roshan. A month later her movie 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' was released and Hrithik personally called our Deepi up and told her how great he thought she was. Rumour has it she is hoping to bag the role in his next production 'Krrish 3'. Earlier reports were in favour of Priyanka or Katrina, but looks like Deepu has got this one in the bag as she is yet to work with him.

Asin
The southern beauty is all set to re-start her career in Bollywood. The 2-film old actress will replace Deepika Padukone in the upcoming sequel opposite Akshay Kumar: 'Housefull 2'. Shooting is set to start at the end of the summer, with a release date for early 2012.

Neetu Chandra
To put it simply: she was left out of the promos for 'No Problem'. And to her surprise the director of the film Anees Bazmi pleaded nonchalance. Apparently she didn't know that she wouldn't be featured in the trailer or the main posters. That's Bollywood for you.

Bipasha Basu
Recently the Bengali beauty patched up her differences with Salman Khan. We all know there was a cold war between John + Sallu, but luckily Bips made the move just before the 'Being Human' campaign started, so we got to see her with all the other divas.

Manisha Koirala
The actress is currently working on Onir's 'I Am' alongside fellow 90s UBD Juhi Chawla. Holidaying at the moment in Bangladesh, the actress has recently stated that marriage is overrated. She said "To marry out of social pressure or because your biological clock is racing away, or you're thinking of security in your old age are all frivolous reasons to get hitched. I don't understand this hoo-ha over marriage... maybe it works for some. As of now, Samrat and I are together, and we're giving this relationship our best shot".

Zarine Khan
Rumour has it the 25-year old actress who made her debut last year with 'Veer' is all set to once again team up with Salman Khan as she is due to start shooting for David Dhawan's 'Partner 2' in the coming months. She will be playing a new character, that of Govinda's sister.
